Current Ryan White CARE Act
expires September 30, 2009!
***YOUR ACTION NEEDED***

The current Ryan White CARE Act EXPIRES on September 30, 2009; Congress must extend the Ryan White Program as a Stand-A-Alone bill by September 30, 2009 to avoid gaps in coverage.  The care act provides funding for:

  • AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAP) that ensures access to expensive medication
  • All the HIV/AIDS specific insurance programs in INDIANA (ICHIA/EIP) that provides health care and treatment for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A)
  • Three HIV medical services programs in the northern, central and southern parts of Indiana that provides critical and consistent medical services for PLWH/A, who otherwise have no medical services.

The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program is a Federal program that provides HIV--related health services.  The program works with cities, states, and local community-based organization to provide services to more than half a million people each year.  The Indiana Care Coordination Program depends on this program to exist.

This program is for those who do not have sufficient health care coverage for financial resource for coping with HIV disease.  Ryan White fills gaps in care not covered by these other sources.  The majority of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program funds support primary medical care and essential support services.

First authorized in 1990, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program is currently funded at $2.1 billion.  For more information about the program, go to http://hab.hrsa.gov/aboutus.htm.
